This woven basketry piece is a common household item of folk life, now repurposed into a beautifully rustic pendant light. It is entirely made with thick strips of bamboo and traditionally used as an active trap to catch catfish in the flooded rice paddies across Thailand. It is a work of design and craftsmanship where shape directly serves function.
Handcrafted by villagers of Northern Thailand this low-tech lampshade does not contain any metal structure and can be hung directly onto the electrical cord without the need of a hanging chain.
